Preserving Hambledon’s History
The Hambledon History Group was formed to research, preserve and share the history of our village and the people who have called it home. We are interested in every aspect of Hambledon’s past — from its buildings, streets and landscape to the people, businesses, occupations, organisations and events that have shaped village life over the centuries.
Our aim is to make Hambledon’s history accessible to everyone. We collect and research photographs, documents, memories and other historical material, bringing together information from local archives and from people with their own connections to the village. Much of what we discover comes from residents, former residents and local families who are willing to share their knowledge and memories.
Building a Living Archive
Historic Hambledon is an evolving record of the village. As new photographs, documents, stories and information come to light, we continue to add to and improve the archive. We are particularly keen to hear from people who have lived in Hambledon, have family connections here, or have material that can help us understand how the village has changed over time.
The History Group also looks beyond the distant past. Hambledon’s history is continually being made, and we want to record the people, organisations, events and everyday experiences that are part of village life today. By preserving these stories now, we can help ensure that they remain available to future generations.
